Journal-Maerki-Baumann-November-2023

Journal

November 2023 - As a responsible family company, our thoughts and actions have always been guided by environmental principles in addition to economic considerations. In order to anchor these values even more firmly in the DNA of our bank, we adopted a comprehensive sustainability strategy at the end of 2022. It governs how we handle the topic of sustainability in conducting our own business activities and thus shapes decisions at both an organisational and operational level. Our services as well as our advisory and investment processes are likewise aligned with the approach's principles. In our modular investment solution, for example, we systematically take account of environmental, social and governance aspects – also referred to as ESG criteria. April 2023 - In addition to being Switzerland’s most important financial centre, Zurich also offers a rich cultural and social life. The family of the two owners of our private bank Maerki Baumann & Co. AG, Hans G. Syz-Witmer and Dr Carole Schmied-Syz, plays an active role here in some respects. Our ties to Zurich are also firmly anchored in our bank’s corporate culture and values. In this edition of Maerki Baumann’s “Journal” magazine, Chairman of the Board of Directors Hans Syz provides an insight into the world of guilds that he was born into. November 2022 - How do private banking and Swiss wrestling fit together? The answer is well, very well indeed! Swiss wrestling is a unifying and identity-forming sport for young and old alike that is based on fairness and respect. These are values that have been implemented at the family company Maerki Baumann since its foundation 90 years ago. We are delighted to have Eugen Hasler, who was a top Swiss wrestler in his younger days, as a member of our team. Demonstrating the ambition and determination that saw him win more than 100 wreaths during his time on the sawdust, “Geni” has carved out a second career at our private bank following his decision to step back from his life as an active sportsman. Find out more about his story in our “Journal”.

May 2022 - 90 years of active entrepreneurship: This is Maerki Baumann’s story in a nutshell. It begins with the drive and vigour of the founder Friedrich Maerki and extends to the strategic foresight demonstrated by the siblings Hans G. Syz-Witmer and Dr Carole Schmied-Syz. As shareholders and in their roles as Chairman and Vice-Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, they have been devoted to ensuring the independence and successful further development of our private bank for more than 20 years. Did you know that Switzerland’s first female bank director worked at Maerki Baumann? Or that our bank was a pioneer in establishing the first independent transaction bank in Switzerland? You can find these and other facts as well as anecdotes in our latest edition of “Journal”.

December 2021 - The Tonhalle Zurich is just a few minutes’ walk from our company headquarters in central Zurich, not far from the lake. Steeped in tradition, this renowned concert hall is now resplendent again following its extensive renovation. This is also a cause for celebration for us, as the owners of our private bank, Hans G. Syz-Witmer and Carole Schmied-Syz, the Chairman and Vice-Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Maerki Baumann & Co. AG, have been committed to this music venue for decades. Hans G. Syz-Witmer played a leading role in the procurement of the new Tonhalle organ. You can learn more about his efforts in the latest edition of the Journal.

July 2021 - In this issue of our “Journal” we give you some insights into the rapidly evolving financial services industry – and into the structural change affecting private banking. What are the main drivers of this change? How does Maerki Baumann position itself as a private bank? And what are the implications for you as a client? It could be summed up like this: as a small, agile private bank, we are extremely well positioned when it comes to the digital transformation – an area in which the size of the company plays only a minor role. We focus on being ready to embrace innovation and, with our clients’ interests in mind, on shaping our own future as a business. And in doing so, we can look forward with optimism to what the future will bring.
